How would I create a wired home network? - Amazingbubble572 - 04-28-2014 04:46 AM

Okay so I have two computers: a desktop and a laptop

I have one printer

I would like a wired network option to be Ethernet

So to share files and an Internet connection between all of these devices what steps and equipment would be necessary for me to implement a wired home network?

This website might help you with your answer. You will need a modem for the initial ISP and a router.

You need a modem and router for whatever internet connection you have (or a combination gateway device) and a bunch of ethernet cables. Or if you do not need internet, you could do it with just a broadband router and bunch of ethernet cables.

Another option if the devices are not all in the same area would be powerline networking. Each module plugs into an AC power outlet and has an ethernet port (or some have multiple ports). You plug one module in where you have a wired network and another where you want to connect something wired to that network. Although, the modules may need to be on the same electrical circuit.

Purchase a router, with or without WiFi. The WAN port on the router will be connected to the modem.
For wired connections, you need an ethernet cable of the desired length for the connect to each computer.
