Is it possible to do SEO for an French website ? I am afraid that I don’t know French. Suppose if I get the project then what are the possible steps do i need to follow to bring the respective website in the first place in Google SERP.

Yes it is possible. If you will be doing SEO for a French website, you will be doing geo-targeting. Meaning you may target only French jurisdiction and not globally. You can research on French related sites, French submission sites and use them as your resources. That is local targeting.
