Only if the forum is configured as "follow". Many forums are "no follow" but you never know which are which until you have posted and check the search engines.

Neil is partially right, as forum links do not count like they once did.
However, the latest word from Goog is that both follow and no follow links do help your backlink profile and authority.

Forum signature still play the important role in SEO and yes you can put your signature into your post. Many forums have some rules regarding signature and according to that rule you have to create your signature and use them.
Forum signature is effective if the forum has follow configuration but Matt Cutts said that both nofollow and do follow links are effective but if you do it in massive way then it can hurt you.

Yes of course! Forum signature can help to enrich your referring domains, even you can only get the nofollow links on condition that the forum's popularity is fairly high.
