I started an online business recently and the problem I'm running into is that there are too many marketing choices out there. Before investing money into a marketing firm, I wanted some tips on how to go about choosing the RIGHT marketing firm. If you have worked with a particular firm, feel free to point them out. Don't worry about how expensive or cheap the marketing firm might be. I want to know the different qualities of firms that are out there and how they work with clients. As stated in the question, Pay Per Click advertising and Search Engine Optimization is what I need help with.

It's very important to know about the marketing strategies used by the marketing agency. The link building and SEO strategies make a huge difference with respect to ethical / unethical process.
As the market is ecommerce market is growing, considering CPC as main KPI may impact the budget and influence the whole budget. Make sure that the agencies are quite familiar with these technical terms.
