Do you think everything is ok these days as long as you say it on the internet? - ezio - 04-28-2014 11:04 AM

If you insult people with racist or sexist comments, people say it's ok because you're on the internet and it's for the purposes of being funny. Why is everyone ok with it these days? If you say something racist on TV, you get bad press immediately and you can lose a lot of sponsors and connections you've had. But if you say it on Twitter, Facebook, or YouTube, is that really different?

If you threaten someone online, is it really ok because it's the internet? Does everyone assume that you don't mean it if you go into detail about how you're going to hurt someone?

Can you really get away with anything these days as long as you do it on the internet?

I don't agree - bad publicity is still generated through posting potentially offensive content online. It isn't ok - it doesn't matter how someone puts their comments out there, if they're offensive, they will suffer consequences.

On the internet, it could be taken differently from in person because the words are seen, not heard. At the same time, some things that are said have the same effect as if it was in person or on TV. You can get away with some things on the internet, but not everything.
