i run a blog and want to sell stuff on it. i have a few affiliate programs in mind. i only have one friend with me on the site. do i need to be a llc or something to do this?

I don't think so. Many affiliate programs do ask if you are a llc or not, but that's just for tax purposes. It totally depends on you and your friend. You can do this as a partnership,LLC, but remember payment will be made to the account of the person specified in the form during registration.
