I've done some research and people say you don't need IPv6 for imternet. I know that's not true because under connection status on my computer it says I have IPv4 Internet but no IPv6, and I can't access any websites.

IPv6 :Internet Protocol (IP) defines how computers communicate over a network. Think IPv6 as an extension of IPv4. 128 bits 2128, or approximately 3.4×1038 addresses, or more than 7.9×1028 times as many as IPv4, which uses 32-bit addresses.
IPv6 will be the replacement of IPv4, which until feb 2014 carried the vast majority of traffic.
with this said my friend, you dont really need ipv6 connection to reach the internet. if your computer says you do have ipv4 connection but not ipv6, you might have "disabled" ipv6 connection in your computer.

The current internet is IPv4. The new one is IPv6. Very few can get IPv6. You don't need it.
Your inability to get to web sites is something else.
Connect your computer directly to the modem. Shut down both. Boot modem and boot computer after modem lights have settled down. Then try again. If that works, then the problem is in your router. If not, call your ISP.

I doubt that lack of IPv6 is the cause of problem, but you can test that idea yourself by installing the IPv6 protocol to see if it resolves the connection issue.

In Vista, IPv6 cannot be uninstalled, but it may be disabled. Open the network connect properties and select the checkbox beside Internet Protocol Version 6.
