I am curious as it is mainly used for blogs which i don't need.
but it does offer more flexibility and customisation potential than wix?

Yes - WordPress isn't only for blogs because it's full powered CMS.
Yes - it's much more flexibility and customization than WIX.

It is simple and convenient to build a website with WordPress.
There are so many nice free wordpress themes for you to choose to make a wonderful website.
And there are also lots of plugins to enable your website functions.
the free wordpress theme I use is Zippy WordPress Theme.

Although originally designed for bloggers WordPress has now matured into a full featured CMS capable of anything from blogs to traditional looking websites. The benefit being that maintenance and updates that once required web designers or knowledge of HTML becomes easy.
If you use a self hosted WordPress solution (installed on your own server) you can do anything you want via plugins, thousands of which are free and easy to find. You will find it far more flexible than other options available to you.

Yes, you can :-D, sites like CNN and other popular sites, they use WordPress, see popular sites that use WP here: https://wordpress.org/showcase/
Not only to blog, but WordPress can be used as creating a static website too, see: http://codex.wordpress.org/Creating_a_Static_Front_Page
Wix is also good, but WP is better in my opinion, when you search for something in Search engines like Google, Yahoo or others, most WP sites are listed first, seldom wix sites :-D
