How can you stop sending spam on twitter? - Jess! - 04-28-2014 06:26 PM

I've recently noticed that I've been losing loads of followers, and someone told me that I've been sending spam messages by DM (direct message) Does anyone know how I can stop this?

Secure your account by enabling HTTPS only in the twitter preferences.
Strengthen your password.
Don't respond to random direct messages sent to you.
Install a good anti-virus, a good free one at the moment is http://www.avira.com/en/avira-free-antivirus
But if you want a paid for version Bitdefender Internet Security 2013 is good with social media protection you will need to pay for an AV Internet Suite with this included.

Hope this answers your question

Your Twitter account was either hacked or someone simply guessed your password. They are now using a spambot to send out their spam to every one of your followers. Change your password (to one that cannot be easily guessed) and enable HTTPS only. That should take care of it.

As for the lost followers, try posting a Tweet saying you were hacked and apologize to anyone who was spammed by your account. If they know it wasn't you, and they don't have to worry about it happening again they might return (or not leave)
