Does having a text box with content that only appears when you hover over a link, good for SEO? - Smilingrabbit931 - 04-28-2014 08:00 PM

As you know Google love content on a webpage, the more quality, updated content is the better Google will view your website.

My question is:

What is it like from an SEO perspective if instead of having the content on the page, if you had text links, and when you hover over a link the content for that link displays in a text box in front of you.

You won’t have to change page, as the text box will appear with the content on it when you hover over the link.

Is this still good for SEO? As Google can read the content or does it matter it is not visible straightaway to the site visitor?

Many Thanks

Hi, It won't really have much of an impact in terms of SEO because that content will be somewhere on your site and will be indexed anyway. Also depending how you implement it the search engines bots will see the hidden text even if your visitors will not ( until they mouse-over the links ).

On thing for sure is that this type of page design is poor usability and is not the best way to construct your website. Personally I would not use this method as it will not improve your search engine rankings and will most likely frustrate your users.

If you main objective is to boost your Search Engine Rankings then there a 101 other things that you can do to improve this.

Best of luck.

It adds one more step for your visitors and there is no real gain doing it. In the long run, it is a negative as visitors will see your result in the search engine but not see the information that drew them in right away. This means they could just leave and go to a competitor's site where the information is upfront.
