Yes, sure!

Meta-tags, meta-title and meta-description are must, if you want your website to be indexed by google bots in the shortest terms.

Also, this is helpful for SEO.

I'd say yes.
From all meta tags the most important one would be the meta description tag which describes the page and gives additional keywords to your content, although search engines don't pay so much attention to meta tags as much, now days, buy you should have them there are still some old search engines that use them to rank a website higher.

Meta Tags helps search engine understand what your page is about. It definitely is not a very big advantage as Google is smart enough to pick the content from the page show it as meta tags. According to me the most important aspect would be having a title tag will the relevant keywords for the page.
