Slugglish Asus Notebook PLEASE HELP!!!? - colossalappliance486 - 04-28-2014 09:16 PM

Hi, I'm currently on a Asus notebook x401a with windows 8.1 installed

My problem is that this notebook is running VERY slugglish, this notebook is not very old, I've had it for a little over a year now. There's NO water damage, I've taken very good care of it. But now it's not as fast anymore like used it to be & I understand Windows PC laptops do become slow over time, but it really hasn't been that long. The mouse will often freeze, webpages freeze etc. It's ridiculous. Also when I click to open something (i.e google chrome) it sometimes takes a few seconds to start up

I have done the following:

- Run whole computer virus scan with AVG
- System Restore (twice actually)
- CCleaner
- Adware scans
- installed all updates
- Disk defrag

I literally woke up one day and my laptop just started being like this. I just want it fixed already. The last thing I wanna do is bring it in for a repair when I could easily fix it myself.

if you can think of any other suggestions that haven't already been mentioned above would be great. thanks

1: if your hard drive is more than 80% full it will ALWAYS be slow.
2: get Glary utilities. Run a maintenance check; then (use glary) go into startup programs and remove any that dont need to be there at start up.
