my speed is around 100-300 kb/s depending on the file downloaded...is that fast or slow?

It depends on your internet connection speed. If you are on a 3Mb line, this would be fast for that line. If you are on anything over 4Mb, then your speed is not as fast as it could be. Saying that, it also depends on how many seeders are on the Internet for that file, whether others are using your internet connection, and what contention you may have locally.
