Is there a proper term in English for a website that provides a link to your website? - Amphibious Midget - 05-01-2014 05:55 PM

Russians call them ''donor websites'' and the other one (the one that gets link juice from that site)- acceptor website.

Please help, I'm translating something that I know little about from russian to english!

It is typically just called a 'backlink" but I have never heard of a term used to describe the linking site. "linking domain" has been used, but probably not really what you are looking for...

Good luck.

I have seen Google use the term donor links, which by the way suggests that the link was voluntarily created by the site, which in Google's world view should be the only way links are created, on the other hand any links created for the purposes of manipulating search ranking are considered a violation of google's guidelines.

Back to your question, I have not heard of any standardized general term for the source of backlinks, technical link reports use the term referrer.
