Yahoo Bing and Google all have local listing pages you can register for, I know Google's best Google.com/placesforbusiness/ you verify ownership via a mailed postcard code in order to be able to edit the page, adding photos, text and correcting category settings. Once citations on various business directories and user comment seemsd to be big ranking factors, now the search ranking of the main company web site seems to be the biggest local ranking factor there.

Use the exact same address format in each listing, submit to the big name business directories, be sure your address is given on your company web site,a $12 a year domain name on a free host may do for a company site. While a few other mentions of local addresses and cities may be good for local matches, don't go crazy with lists of cities, this can be seen as SEO spam and can hurt ranking.

Yahoo has three different types of listings: Yahoo! Local Enhanced Listing ($9.95/mo), Yahoo! Localworks ($29.99/year), Yahoo! Local Basic Listing (Free)
So, if you want your company to show up on the map, you have to sign for one of the services and follow the instructions. Check the source for the free local basic listing
