User experience is exactly as it sounds; how an end user interacts with a medium (apps, websites, operating systems etc.) and whether it's positive or negative.
- Is it easy to use / navigate?
- Is the objective clear?
- Is it efficient?

Sadly, there are hundreds of variables to consider when designing with user experience in mind. Layout, graphics, copywriting and call to action are just some of the core/broad categories.

We should always be optimising to make the customer's journey / experience as enjoyable and positive as possible as they're the one's who keep the business running. You can use analytical software to analyse trends and provide insights to the factors that are negating from the overall experience and then implement structured testing procedures to improve these downfalls.

It sounds simple on a 1-dimensional level, but in medium-large businesses you'll likely have several people dedicated to UX design as it improves conversions.
