my internet connection (at its best) its at about 54mbs how can i make it faster?

The speed you are referring to is your local WLAN speed (WiFi) and not your Internet speed.
This is the speed between your device and your wireless router, not the speed from your router to the telephone exchange.
Unless you are on a cable Internet connection, you're not going to get any better speed when browsing the Internet by making your WiFi connection faster.
The best way to check your Internet speed is by using a service like http://www.speedtest.net which will test the speed and give you a result.

you should do 3 steps
1. use best personal firewall ,i like bw meter :www.desksoft.com
2. use best web browser,i like firefox
3. use best downloader,i like internet download manager
