I see some people's blogs on blogger and they have side links to other websites their readers can find them on such as twitter or tumblr. How do they achieve this? I can't seem to find a gadget that works!

you have to manually insert code in the html/javascript widget in the blogger so that you can get the soical links. I have given tutorial in my blogger blog called weblogcode. Since I am a newbie here i can't post a link i will show you an image for getting there check it out.

Search on Google "Social Buttons for blogger" then you will get a lot of different designed widgets / gadgets for your blog.
