It means number.

It's a hashtag.
It's a newly popular way of refering to something, often used by teens.
It can also hyperlink to a page or blog that the word after was refering to.
Eg
That match was so good #englandfootball

It's the pound sign on a phone.

It can be used to denote weight in pounds, or its used as a symbol of the word number as in #7, pronounced number seven. It can also mean a sharp note in musical writing. Then there is also this whole twitter hashtag thing but I refuse to twitter on principal. Twit by the way is another word for idiot.

1.It means several things. In which case are you asking?
2.It appears in music where we call it as 'flat'
3.It appears in html for <a> tags href links for the same page.
4.Sometimes # used to mean "number"
5.It is used in phone numbers #100* something
6. Nowadays uses in fb also #home stuff like that. out of all I wonder in which case you are referring this with. So I cannot tell a exact answer.

It is called a hash sign

In the US it means "number" like #4 is number four (but we rarely use it that way in the UK).

It is also musical notation for a sharp note (NOT a flat, as Jenny says!)
