Internet Randomly and Regularly Disconnects? - Jehrum - 05-05-2014 11:33 PM

I've been having problems getting my internet to be more reliable and not disconnect so often. It happens dozens of times each day and lasts anywhere from 3 to 45 seconds. Originally, I was with Comcast and wirelessley connected to the router which was in another part of the house. Thinking it was the wifi having trouble getting to my receiver, I bought a power line adapter to directly connect to the modem. I kept having the same issues, so I switched to another internet provider thinking it was Comcast's fault. That didn't solve the problem either. Next I tried disabling my firewall and running some virus scans. Still nothing has changed. So I've come to the conclusion that there must be something wrong with my network settings or the adapter itself.
So my question is, what should be next in my trouble shooting list? I'm not a computer expert, but I have competent enough to follow simple instructions. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm using an Alienware laptop running Windows 7, Intel Core i5 3210M, CPU speed of 2.50 2.50 ghz, and 16 gigs of RAM.

My (tentative) conclusion would be different than what you arrived at. My thinking is that your connection to your provider (ISP) is marginal and system disconnects when it randomly gets "inadequate" (either due to line noise or due to excess demand (or both)).
If it is happening that frequently, you should be able to run diagnostics to confirm (or disconfirm) it. Your upload/download rates should be varying all over the place.
What PC do you have? (sorry, I rarely return to my answers, but for the benefit of those who come after...) Memory, Chip, speed, OS? What else is running when you experience the disconnects? (it would have to be a really old (or crippled) machine to be the source of the problem, but still...)

I'll take a look for some free diagnostic sites, I am sure there are some...

My boss is an ex BellSouth manager and have never seen a computer get disconnected due to excess demand or usage. But definitely look into your internal network set up, first start on you firewall settings turn it off and test to see if the problem persist. If is a cable provider make sure you a brand new modem (router) with the latest updates, now if you are a DSL subscriber make sure you have filters in every outlet in your house where a phone is connected, why? because your connection will drop every time you receive a phone call or your telephone rings.

Last run a virus scan and a rootkit scan, 90% of network issues are related to rootkit attacks. Rootkits will modify your TCP/internet settings.

If issue persist try to get professional support: http://15pcrepair.com I think they offer great value for your money.
