Why has my internet speed suddenly decreased? - 969 - 05-06-2014 10:27 PM

I got my internet connection a few days ago, and since then i have got an average speed of 100 to 110 kb/sec, but today morning, the speed suddenly out of nowhere was halved, it gave an average speed of 55 to 60 kb/sec. Why did it suddenly decrease? It is so damn annoying! Everything i download now takes double the time it used to take before and it is affecting me. What is the reason and solution (if any) for it?
There is some additional details i would like to throw it, hopefully it would help you guys! I am an Indian, and i get my internet services from a telephone modem (BSNL), not a USB modem (like MTS). And yeah i have downloaded much in the last two days, around 5 Gb maybe, so will that affect the internet speed? And also another thing i forgot to mention, the 'internet' LED in my modem went out, i restarted the modem and the file which i was downloading, that is when the internet speed was halved.

Some internet companies cut speed if you use too much data per month.

try turning off your router and restarting it after a couple of minutes
I find I need to do this once a month at least.
I don't know why either and I work in the cable industry designing networks!

Hi so who do you get it from as some are better than others as the point of presentation is where things are where it's at.sharing a 2 mega bit link with other users is what is known as contentsion. some have as many as 4999 others using a point of presentation, while others only have 249. it really comes down to what you pay for so pay peanuts and you get peanuts in the way of a service.
so that is what broadband choices web site is all about.

In all honesty this is not something that will be easily debugged by us. I would recommend calling BT and requesting they look into the issue.
Things I would recommend you do first (because they will ask you to do this):
1) Try Restarting your Router
2) Check your ADSL filters are in place everywhere.
3) Try Restarting your Computer
4) Acquire Lenhart Children

Change your password just incase someone's using it without your knowledge.

First of all restart your router or modem for 10-15 minutes then check your internet speed on speed check website. IF u not get the speed then change your wi-fi password else connect to customer care.

The problem is not in internet but in computer itself. The more you download on computer the slower computer gets.Hard drive inot made from rubber it has limits..My advice:
1.Use external hard rdive as storage
2.Use Dick Cleanup or CCleaner to free HDD.

Instead of 1 minute do it for 2, if this does not work, unplug your WHOLE system, plug it back in. If that does not work, contact your store and ask for them to send out a person specially equipped in that field.
