Someone used my email address to online shop? - ciaran - 05-09-2014 04:58 AM

Someone with my name created an account on the shopping site Idealworld.tv with my email address. So I got emails confirming sign up and receipts of items they had bought. It contains sensitive information like their address and account details.

I rung the company and told them of this and the customer adviser told me it was "weird" and didnt really seem to know what to do. I wonder is there anything else I could do or does this sound suspicious.

I went to the website and tried to create an account of my own and noticed it only asks for an email address to be entered only once. Therefore leaving me to believe that it's hopefully a mistake made by someone.

Thanks

Looks like you did what you could. You notified the company and you figured out its probably a mistake. What I'd also do is try to find if there is a phone number or other way to contact that person, as they are probably wondering why they don't get emails about their purchase... Ask that company rep that they contact their customer, I'm sure they also request a phone number.
