Can I boost my internet Mbps? - Larry Sanders - 05-10-2014 03:18 AM

I have centrurylink and in my area they only have 1.5mbps but we need at least 10mbps for work. Comcast and other services don't service out here. So my question is is there a way to boost it up to 10mbps somehow? Something I can buy? Or am I stick with 1.5?

You are stuck with 1.5. Think of internet as having a water pipe that connects you to the internet, the problem is that you want a 10" pipe to transfer alot more data but they only have a 1.5" pipe that goes to your house. Unfortunately you can not add pipes nor increase the pipe size, that is up to the ISPs.

On a side note, you can look into satellite internet which I think they can give 10 Mbps but latency might be an issue (delay from when you send info for it to come back to you would be likely 0.5-1.5 seconds).

EDIT: http://www.hughesnet.com/?page=Plans-Pricing is satellite internet (i've never used it though so I can't give an opinion on quality)
