Hi Ferry,
There are many ways to go about doing seo. My first foray into it was because of a video i watched from Frontdesk SEO. You may want to check that video out in the link below. It explains why you're doing SEO and suggests ways for you to do it. What I like about Frontdesk is that it's a software that would guide you along the way if you choose to do SEO by yourself. The company also has an outsourcing option if you want that instead. In any case, there are several resources online to help you but I would recommend going to experts so that your efforts will be most fruitful.

SEO is time taken job, I you want good search engine optimization for your site then you must give at least three to fours daily for around four to six months.
Just follow free basic tools of manually search engine optimization including link building through free classified advertisement, directories submission, forums’ discussions etc. You may also join some social networking website for the cause.
