Am I rushing to soon to be in a relationship? I feel as though I am ready? - BRi - 05-10-2014 09:07 AM

I was engaged for two years & during the course of my engagement my fiance not only cheated but he was physically & mentally abusive as well. Not more than two days would go by without him calling me a B***H.

Even when I managed to move two hours away in hopes of starting over, he still tried to control my life & I took that as him caring for me, but once again I was wrong. This past May we tried to reconcile & work things out for the 100th time, but he was the same, but I think even worse, he was traveling to see me, but he had started a family back home that I knew nothing about & when I found out I ended things, changed my number, deleted social media & got away, eve after that he began to spread terrible lies about & he even told people in my hometown some of my most personal secrets, it was a pain I had never felt.

That was about 8 months ago & although I still think of him & still am a little hurt, I want to start dating, just to feel good again. There are a lot of things that I still want to work on with myself though, like finding a better apartment, becoming more organized, being more honest & open with others & myself & most of all learning to forgive.

MyEX- fiance has tried contacting me on several occasions & I have always & will continue to ignore him, I am ready to move on.

There is one guy who I really like right now & he asked me out on a date & I would like to accept & to move forward with him, even if it does not work out, I would like to give it a try.

I am just questioning if I am ready.

Thanks in advance for all answers.

This sentence proves that you are not ready: "I want to start dating, just to feel good again."

That's backwards. Once you feel good, THEN you will be ready to start dating. If you start dating before you feel good, you will be bringing into your next relationship what is called "baggage", almost certainly guaranteeing the relationship's failure.
