Internet Connection Speed? - dodgeram dude - 05-10-2014 07:20 PM

My task bar say's my internet connection speed is 100.0 Mbps. What does this mean?

- Lump - 05-10-2014 07:31 PM

It means that you're connected to your LAN at 100Mbps, meaning that you can transfer files locally at up to 100Mbps. Note the distinction between LAN and WAN.

@rush: It's in megabits, not megabytes. Notice the lower-case 'b'. Also, it's surprisingly high probably because you're thinking in terms of internet connections--it's not particularly high in LAN terms.

Umm are you sure its 100mbps? That sounds way to high... at least I think. Anyway it mean Mega bite per second. Its how many mega bites of info can come into your computer per seconds. The higher the number the faster the internet.

Wow, I dont know what the 2 previous users were talking about.... Ok, So, 100MBps mean your transfer rate is UP-TO 100 Megabytes a second. While that doesnt necessarily mean you are able to download quite that fast as most servers, even huge ones will only dedicate about 500KBPS (half a megabyte) to downloads. It means you have a fast connection bascially. =)

Lump is correct.
