Is it necessary that I must have internet connection while Norton Antivirus 2006 analysisng my computer? - raja - 05-11-2014 12:19 AM

I think Internet connection is not necessary while running antivirus. Is it correct?

Yes...im pretty positive you need internet connection for that. When they do the scans every friday, they have to access your internet. So same thing.

You only need the internet to update the AV program. It should scan your computer w/o internet connection!!

With the way you framed your question, "...analysing your computer", most certainly you do NOT need an internet connection for the analysis part.

However, norton antivirus is designed to periodically update its virus scanning patterns, & program engines , thus you need an internet connection for this to work.

However, if you play around in the settings or scheduling options in the program, you can change the days and times this updates are performed, (I think it is called LiveUpdate) and once this is performed, the computer analysis can pretty much be performed offline.

However, why do you use Norton antivirus, such a system hog, if it is possible for you, try out Nod32 antivirus, http://www.google.com/url?q=http://www.eset.com/download/index.php&sa=X&oi=smap&resnum=1&ct=result&cd=1&usg=AFrqEzdSo86EIiIHIPV2fXx_MWNju8AcHw

Much reliable, and less dependence on your system resources.

Hope this helps

You don't need the internet to use any Antivirus Software.

What you need the internet for is updating the virus definitions to make them the most current.

That makes doing the analysing more successful but not actually necessary

On that point I believe as will many agree with me that getting updated virus definitions is the best way but not the only one.

no.

no you don't need to have an internet connection, only when you have to update your files. As a matter of fact if you suspect that your computer has a virus it's recommended to run your computer in safe mode and disconnect your internet connection when analysing, for viruses are very adaptable and can actually access the internet to prevent being deleted.

your right you dont needa connection but im sorry to tell you norton is notorious for screwing up your comp and not finding virus's I would suggest AVG free version or trend micro pc-cillin but for the best all around protection get Zone Alarm security Suite Pro its awesome firewall antivirus, antispy,I.M. security and its all top of the line
