Can I connect to the Internet using just a wireless router and no paid Internet connection? - udontknowme - 05-11-2014 01:19 PM

I currently have a wireless satellite Internet connection and I hate it. It's pretty much the only way my family can get high speed since we live in a very rural part of Mississippi. Everyone in the family shares it via wireless router connected to the modem. It is fast enough to surf the web resonably fast but not fast enough for me to connect to Xbox Live and when we use it too much it slows down A LOT. I was wondering if I was to buy my own wireless router, connect it to my PC, and disconnect from the satellite Internet, would I be able to surf the Internet while not actually connected to any paid Internet service. In other words would I have my own wireless connection.

no because all a wireless router is a box that sends signal out without a modem connect to Internet is plugged into router it will not work it will still say the computer has wifi but it will not have Internet

I'm sorry, but the answer is no. While you will still be able to connect to the wireless router, if there is no internet connection connected to the router, you will have no internet. A wireless router is used to funnel your internet connection to the devices connected to it. So for internet to get to the devices, a modem must be connected to the router to provide internet

Not to my knowledge.
Wireless routers are useless if there's no internet around.

You have to have a connection in order for a router to work. A router does exactly that, it routes your internet connection to several different PCs via wired links or wirelessly. No internet connection=router no work!

Hello
Login router management pages, in the setup wizard, set up your user name and password adsl (usually admin), the other on the basis of the need to set up http://www.Fix-pc-Master.com

You can look into cellular Internet. T-Mobile has an unlimited data access plan for $49.99 a month. Of course they have the worst coverage of any of the cell phone providers.

Look at Spring and T-Mobile. They both have unlimited data access plans.
