We don't debate, just as the bible admonishes. We are happy to discuss though with genuine truth seekers.

- Horsense - 05-12-2014 01:16 PM

That is highly unlikely . . . as it is our desire to be obedient to Scriptural counsel, such as:

". . . *Reject* foolish and ignorant debates, knowing that they produce fights. For a slave of the Lord does not need to fight, but needs to be gentle toward all, qualified to teach, showing restraint when wronged, instructing with mildness those not favorably disposed. Perhaps God may give them repentance leading to an accurate knowledge of truth." (2 Timothy 2:23-25)

"So I desire that in every place the men carry on prayer, lifting up loyal hands, *without* anger and debates." (1 Timothy 2:8)

130 yrs of false doomsday prophecies .

Everytime they have said the end is near at a

Assembly
Meeting
Magazine
Book
Talks

Its proved to be a false prophecy literally thousands of times down through 130 yrs.

Apart from the fact the Bible tells us not to get involved in this sort of debate, the question text "Christians can also" is an insult to JWs who are true Christians. Ive no doubt it was meant to be insulting, so what would be the point of even attempting to talk to those already antagonistic.

I think the point of the verses pointed out, is to do exactly what it says. To reject, FOOLISH AND IGNORANT debates. This debate is anything but foolish and ignorant. Unfortunately, the application of this scripture is sometimes broadened to include discussing scripture with someone who may disagree with you, and not addressing substance.

Also, the comments cannot be true, because at the time of this debate (a while ago), Greg Stafford was in fact a JW, and wrote a book called "Jehovahs Witnesses Defended: An Answer to Scholars and Critics" which was the first serious scholarly defence of JW beliefs. I have one in my bookcase still.

In the last 6-7 years however, Greg Stafford has left the JW religion, over the doctrine of blood, 1914, and shunning.

(1 Timothy 6:20, 21) . . .O Timothy, guard what is laid up in trust with you, turning away from the empty speeches that violate what is holy and from the contradictions of the falsely called “knowledge.”  For making a show of such knowledge some have deviated from the faith.. . .

This counsel apply to all christians

We discuss the Bible, we don't do debates. If someone wants to argue that is their business, we have better things to do.

The statements that the Jehovah's Witnesses are making here, are false. JWs themselves WILL debate, as long as they feel they are winning. They hide behind a facade of "looking for truth-seekers" to excuse their inability to answer any questions and rebuttals that rip their theology to shreds. They are not looking for truth-seekers. They are looking for the gullible. They are afraid, no, terrified, of any reasonable discourse that disproves them, and it shows with their responses here.
