So today everything was working fine, until suddenly my Minecraft crashed and i couldn't connect to this one US server. I thought it was down until I found out my friends were on. I also tried to connect to this TS i always go on, but I cant connect to their either. Then I later used a VPN (hotspot shield) and I can connect to everything fine again. But why is this, and I don't like to use hotspot shield it makes me lag in my games.

Because that's helps you connect on the internet.

Perhaps your ISP having some routing issues.
About lags: you can use fast US-located VPN servers from Seed4.Me (https://seed4.me/invitations).
