Ever since my dad got a new modem, I haven't been able to download torrents or play games on my steam client. It says something is wrong with my internet connection, but my internet is working fine. I believe i have to open the ports but my dad won't let me because he believes people will hack our computer even though I tell him it's highly unlikely.
What should I do? Could there be another solution?

There is a option in modem to block torrents, games. so , that's why you are not able to get those.
still if you want those you can use proxies.
best way is add BlueBox addon to firefox and then browse torrents. No body can stop you now.
