any marketing suggestions for a photography business? - Joe - 05-16-2014 10:10 AM

We tried local newspapers that are free, tried facebook (finding friends and tagging them so their friends could see our pictures and logo), tried google adwords, just put a video on youtube, we have an A sign with brochures in front of our house, a sign with more brochures in front of another house, and put flyers at supermarket community boards. people take brochures and rip off the small pieces of paper off the buttom of the page. the small pieces of paper have our name and phone number. other photographers and alot of people do say we take good pictures. i know it is not our prices. it has come to the point that we are considering moving to where my wife is from cause they are more family oriented and from what my wife sees on facebook, they look more for photographers. We live in NYC and might have to relocated to NC to have a better chance. It might not help alot people it might be better as a second income. P.S. only thing left in N.Y. to try is catering halls but besides that, i think we have been doing a good enough job getting our name out.
we also tried wedding.com but keep getting rejections.

Define your target market, who are they, where do they come from, how can you reach them? That will show you how you need to be marketing to them. Your current approach sounds a bit shotgun marketing - be aware such "broadcast" advertising can actually put off as many people as it can attract. Also look at your competitors what are they doing, how do they do it, what's the message. How are you going to compete and differentiate yourself?

Offer to photograph a charity event that interests you, in return for an ad in the event program. Offer a coupon or gift card to current customers who recommend new customers.
