A decent laptop I should get? - 970 - 05-17-2014 12:06 PM

So I've had a really crappy laptop for years and I want a decent laptop that will last at least 7 years or so.

I have an HP Probook 4520 right now. I've had it for about four years and it's starting to slow down and the charging port is really sensitive, so I'm going to get a new laptop at the end of the school year (June) and I want to know what is best for me.

Mostly I use my laptop for Internet downloading, using Microsoft Office, and playing online flash games. I occasionally play downloaded games but not much.

I also am a heavy programmer so a strong processor would be nice.

I'd like a Macbook Pro but I heard that those aren't very good and they're waaaaay too expensive.

Forgot to mention, I'm on a budget as well. My parents will buy me any laptop but I personally don't like to waste money, so I'll say keep the price below $750.

So to sum up my preferences I want:

- Below $750
- Capable of downloading from the Internet very quickly
- Decent screen size (my eyes are pretty bad)
- Portability doesn't matter (I don't bring my laptop to other places)
- Fast processor (for some gaming and a lot of programming)
- A large memory capacity
- Strong in website games and stuff

Come to think of it if a PC is a better option for me than a laptop then please let me know. I really know very little about computers, just how to make software.

Thanks,
Tim

Part of what keepsdownloading a program from the internet slow is your broadband speed, it can only download as fast as your connection is. I think you would be better off with a pc than a laptop. They are cheaper, easier to upgrade if it does eventually slow down and generally better. If you think you are up to it you could even try building one, and if you don't want to try watching a tutorial because it really isn't as bad as it seems! You can get parts cheap at newegg.com in america but anywhere else and your amazon should be just fine.

If you do decide to build one I would recommend this for a incredibly fast relatively cheap processor.

This may seem like alot of money but it would definitely be the most expensive part of your pc!

a tutorial for building a pc :

although this a gaming rig you could just leave out the graphics card since for what you are building you wouldn't need one or at least not a expensive one like the one in the tutorial
Even though I have said alot I don't actually have a pc or laptop to recommend in the end so, before you do anything crazy wait for some other answers.
