Facebook displays your friends on the right hand side of the screen, showing online status'.
It either says:
Web • (in green)
Mobile • (in green)
[Phone symbol]
[Phone symbol] followed by time last online
Now, do the first two in green mean that the person is on the page/app right now or that it is open in the background
Does the phone symbol mean they have it open in the background?
I know green means they are online, but does it mean they are using the app right now.

Green means they are online. The phone symbol means they use facebook on their phones but they are not online. It will display the time since they were last online for a few hours then it will just go to the phone symbol.
