What's good about these two is they produce traffic to a site. When its done right the possibility of gaining traffic is high. SMO focuses more on social networking sites thus, everyone is capable of doing it. On the other hand, SEO is more on page and off page optimization.

Why not shoot for the Gold, look at ALL GOOGLE is doing. I call the search engine monolith that is google an UNSTOPABLE force.
Why should the bloggers and youtubers not be allowed to learn the code? I believe the SEO and SMO folks will be eager to gain share on youtube, digg, blogs and myspace inspired sites.
