my friends keep telling me to direct message them but I have nooo idea hoowww!!! please help quick!

Just click Direct message icon on the right sidebar. If you using smartphone, just click your profile icon (figure of a man). There will be direct message link.

Find out their username and put an @ ign in front of it, such as
I just want to say hello to a friend of mine. Hi @Friendsname

Make sure that the person that wants you to DM them is following you.
Then, press the button that looks like a body from the shoulders up and press Direct Message.
There you go!
