Would you let your 11 year old daughter have Facebook? - Lauren - 05-23-2014 06:47 PM

I'm asking this on my daughters account because I don't have one myself.

She is nearly 12 and saturated secondary school last September and is in year 7. She says all of her friends have one and I know this is true because whenever they come round I will hear them say "I saw on Facebook that..." Or "so and so put on Facebook...." She says she is getting left out of plans and sleepovers and things as her friends arrange them through Facebook. I am quite aware of the fact that you must be 13 to have a Facebook account. I don't have Facebook myself so I have no idea how it works! This is why I need you to also tell me what it's about and what you do! She has twitter and Instagram and snapchat as her cousin told me hey are completely safe but I'm unsure of Facebook after hearing tales from friends please comment your honest opinions thanks. Debbie (Lauren's mum)
Sorry for spelling mistakes! I'm rubbish on touch screens
If I put the setting on the highest it can go, could she still receive messages from strange people :/

Yeah let her have one there's really no reason to not since it's not going to harm anyone. Just put the privacy settings on friends only and she's fine.

No because alot of people dont treat little kids to good they will send them pornographic images and alot of times fake accounts teach them things that they do not need to know at that age so I would not recommend it

No. Far too dangerous.

You can allow her but make sure you have enabled the privacy setting and parental control/ Family guidelines software is enabled.
