it just means that they are notified that you were on their page..

It's like saying hello. In fact, according to Wikipedia the poke feature is intended to be a "nudge" to attract the attention of another user. Many facebook users use this feature to attract attention or say "hello" to their friends.
When the Facebook developers initially created the poke, it was intended to be a feature with no stated purpose. Contrary to popular belief, it is virtually impossible to put someone's eye out by poking them (on Facebook, that is).

I thought it also meant if it was a girl being poked it means shes a hoe.
