i'm want an hdtv for my room and not sure do i need a converter box or antenna because when my parents brought their hdtv, they connect antenna to their hdtv.

You will have a digital tuner in the tv but you will need to connect this to an aerial. If the tv is a smart tv it will need an internet connection via Ethernet to a router to get the extra stuff like Netflix etc.
