Police vetting procedure? - Bob - 05-31-2014 08:49 PM

I applied for the MET police ad for the vetting procedure, they want to know if I am on any social networking sites, which I don't mind giving them my user name to check out. What I was wondering was if they can see my personal messages, you know, can they hack my account and check it or? I'm not hiding anything but I would see that as invasion of privacy to be honest.

Be careful what you ask for?

They don't hack - they investigate and yes they can and do if they have a concern. I went through this when I worked for HMP they wanted to know everything except my bra size. I had nothing to hide so did not object.

If you want to be a Police Officer you will have to go through the vetting

You do not have to give them the details. They do not have to employ you. Many employers are looking at Social networking sites. There have been several high profile cases of in appropriate posts on social networking sites causing problems. They want to see if you are sensible with your posts and what you have said.
As a police office it is vital you are seen to act in a suitable manor at all times.
I have worked with a guy who was fired over his post on Facebook.
