my friend lives in israel and is jewish and on her timeline on facebook all her jewish friends are saying "good luck on 120" instead of happy birthday or whatever. i think she is turning 14.
is it just something personal? or is it something for jewish people? im very curious since im half jewish and other cultures are interesting.

just bad translation.
"Mazal Tov" roughly translates to "good fortune" rather than "good luck" and is what we wish on birthdays or occasions.
you can also wish "yom hooledet sameach", but "mazal tov" just caught on

Actually, the reason Jews say this is because the prophet Moses lived until 120. The Jewish Torah (Bible) calls this a long life. Therefore, Jewish people bless each other to live until 120 on their birthdays.
