How can I limit the bandwidth of other computers in the house? - hellow - 06-02-2014 05:04 AM

Currently, I live with my family. The setup is that we get a download speed of 2.5. We have three computers running at once with my sister's computer plugged directly into the modem/router. (my family is crazy, so don't ask why she's plugged in because I don't know)

Basically, my sister steals all the bandwidth. I know this because the internet slows down tremendously when she is online. I want to limit how much bandwidth she gets. We have a netgear. I'm not a computer genius... so a guide for dummies would be awesome. Thanks!

NetLimiter is an ultimate internet traffic control and monitoring tool designed for Windows. You can use NetLimiter to set download/upload transfer rate limits for applications or even single connection and monitor their internet traffic.

Along with this unique feature, Netlimiter offers comprehensive set of internet statistical tools. It includes real-time traffic measurement and long-term per-application internet traffic statistics

Routers automatically allocate bandwidth to connected devices whether you are using them or not. Make sure you turn off wifi on devices that aren't being used so that they don't steal bandwidth.

I don't know of any programs that limit bandwidth but you may be able to change the bandwidth settings for certain devices within the router settings.
