How can I make a wired internet connection? - rampage335 - 06-05-2014 06:05 AM

How can I make a wired internet connection in a different room then the router and modem?

But some Cat 5e bulk cable, some modular RJ45 connectors and plates.

Run the wire through the walls from one room to the other and install the RJ45 connectors and mount the plates to the wall.

Use X-Base-T Ethernet patch cables to connect your computer to the jack.

You grab a Ethernet cable. You plug it into the back of the router. You plug the other end into the back of the computer. Congratulations you just made a wired internet connection.

By using Powerline technology. You connect via a cat 5 cable the router to a device that plugs into your houses electrical outlet, which uses the houses existing wiring to transmit the signal to the receiver that you connect via cat 5 cable to the device you want internet connectivity. They're sold in pairs, a sender and a reciever.

Option 1: Run an ethernet cable from the modem into the other room (measure first).

Option 2: If the current router is wireless, buy another wireless router that can operate as a bridge. This will allow you to connect the new wireless router to the old one, and then you can plug an internet cable into your new router. This option avoids buying a lot of CAT-5 cable and running it from room to room.
