I just connected it and I don't want it to use my internet rapidly so can I disconnect it when I don't want to use it? How do I disconnect it properly?

Just press the standby switch at the rear of the router. To be honest though, most people just turn it on and leave it on so its available all the time for any of your devices to connect to, including your SKY HD box for on demand streaming.
