i know this sounds like a no brainer but make sure all your wires are connected in the right place (i.e. power cable, ethernet cable). but i think what you forgot to do is set it up. if you havent set up your modem before than you have to set it up in order for your computer to share the interent connection with you modem (i was in your same shoes once). the modem could ask for your I.P. address and other important information involving your internet connection. i cant really tell you anymore because set ups vary by modems. mine i had to do manually but some modems do the set up for you.

Hi There,

You do not mention which operating system you are using on the desktop so can not give a fefinite answer. Also did not say what kind of modem you are using...DSL or dialup.

But what you need to do is connect your internet connection to the modem and then connect your desktop to the modem. Evidently you already have done this and it does not work.

Once that is connected you must configure your desktop to connect to the internet using your modem. You have to tell your desktop how to connect to the internet and e-mail.

Do a search in your computer's "Help and Support" for "connecting to the internet" for a step-by-step procedure.

Hope this helps you,
Al
