It's tough to get accurate objective rating for such services, relying on the opinions of people on internet marketing and webmaster forums may be the best way to go, a careless automated campaign or attempting to meet unrealistic guarantees and result in your sites ultimate ranking being sabotaged by penalties.

Finding a quality SEO company is never a difficult task. You can simply key in the keyword "SEO Expert" "SEO Consulting" or "SEO strategist" and search engine results page will show you millions of results in a snap. However the challenge now here is what will you choose? For all the results which appeared in front of your eyes, what is the best? On a small business, no matter how budget you allotted, you have to get what you deserved tailored for your website's needs.

First, you have to choose a company which can give you a clear vision and explanation why your website isn't performing well.

Second, the one which can give you a real-time frame and what you can expect on that specific time.

Third, a company which can promise you transparency - through weekly or monthly reporting to the status of your website. Transparency also is a sense which he will give you all the information on the strategies he is doing such as showing you the email, username and password.

And last, a company which can give you expert advice for a long-term results and continue to share to you the trends and changes as you go over the campaign. Since SEO is a never-ending and never-constant process, expect that there will always be a change and a quality SEO company knows exactly how to cope up with all of these changes.

There is no defined process or checklist for business about how to find the quality SEO resource but I will try to compile the step you should consider before contacting or hiring a quality consultant to fulfil your digital marketing needs.

1. Look for Confidence
2. Level of Transparency
3. Beware of Long Term Contracts
4. Odd Pricing Model
5. Google Consultant/Business Name
6. Check twitter and Google+
7. Trace their activity on forums
8. Activity on Leading Blogs
9. Endorsements

I guess the points I have mentioned above are enough to find a quality SEO for your business, so next time when you are planning hire a SEO consultant or an agency try considering all these points and probably you will find the right gem for your business.

There are thousands of SEO services and new practices every day. Sadly you have to know a little about SEO in order to screen potential services.

You want ones that is actually creating quality content and doing real outreach, not spamming predefined 'SEO' link sources that will just get a Google penalty.

If you're screening a list of services or methods, check out Rewind SEO's Encyclopedia of Risky Links and Practices.
