Got a new router. But is it acting normal? - Pikachu512 - 06-10-2014 02:47 AM

Yeah. My 3600HGV got fried yesterday. Got a replacement from AT&T yesterday. Now its a NGV589, but whenever I use the internet at home, I can't use youtube, twitter vines, and anything related to videos. Whenever I try to browse around the internet, it takes me the att.com page. Example: I would google something and it would direct me to att.com ALL THE TIME.
Is this new router a worst model than my 3600HGV? Would I have to call customer service? Can it be fixed without using my computer? (My computer won't work)
Oh, and I'm using AT&T U-Verse Internet

Right. This could be due to the ISP setting up the router. Either contact your ISP or you can try to change the proxy settings.

If you can change the routers DNS servers, do that. If not, change them on your computer. A DNS server is the thing that translates Google.com to 74.125.228.102 for example. If you put that address in your address bar, you should get to Google's search engine and not AT&T.

As for what to use, I suggest using 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. Then go here https://www.grc.com/dns/benchmark.htm Then download and run DNS Benchmark. It will test hundreds of DNS servers. Pick ones that are fast at your location.

You said the computer did not work with the router so I strongly suggest the option of phoning technical support services they can do all sorts of things to fix just about any problem that exists about tech.
