He's in my tutor group at college and we spoke on the first day because we had to do a team building exercise and we got paired, he's really cute and was really nice and I really like him, I'm way too shy to talk to him in person, he's quite popular but not massively and I'm not, how can I talk to him on facebook without saying something weird???

just simply say hey....just say whats up...how u finding college so far? anything else u know about him use it...so where did he go high school,,,that kinds thing!

just say "hi" or something like that with a smiley face or something. its not weird its beast when a girl starts the conversation with the guy instead of us always having to do it <3

You could always open with 'Hello' =)
I realise that isn't a very desirable answer for you, but he might be really flattered! Alternatively you could 'Accidentally click the wrong name', say something that invites a question like "Should I just tell him or am I kidding myself?", make it up from there and eventually you'll be in a conversation =) Sounds a bit odd when written down but it worked for me!

You can start with asking name and than asking where he lives and then asking about family. In this way, you can start conversation with a guy on facebook.
