Upon opening my email there is a X rated banner ad that pops up and I can't delete. it.

probably have a virus - run your virusscanner and remove it or look online for help, or reconfigure your C drive and start afresh if you can't get rid of it. Store all your files on a harddrive so you can re-install them when you wipe your C drive clean
