All of your messages are still visible to others once you delete your Facebook account. Now, this may be good or bad. If you have said something you want to delete, then you do that! It could still be found somewhere, but at least it won't be immediately seen by anyone.

Have a good day!

Once you delete your facebook account. Your account stops existing. But that cannot retrieve all your prior messages. But this is what you can do:

Before you close your account with facebook:

Delete your messages from your timeline.
Delete your messages from your facebook chat.
unsubscribe your friends.

When well done, your content wont be immediately found anywhere.

If you deactivate your account, your Timeline disappears from the Facebook service immediately. People on Facebook won't be able to search for you, though some info, like messages you sent, may still be visible to others.
